Job announcements for July week 1 ...

If you intend to approach a company directly for an employment opportunity, it makes sense to pick one experiencing growth or a period of investment. Keep your eyes on the newspapers, they are full of good stories if you really look. Here are a few from this week:

Virgin Media
Virgin Media has started work on a £75m project to bring super-fast broadband to Manchester, creating 500 jobs and benefiting 150,000 homes and businesses. The £467m turnover company will eventually invest £3bn across the country to bring ultrafast connectivity to four million premises.

NuoDB
US-based NuoDB is opening a software engineering centre in Belfast, creating 20 new jobs, after securing £100,000 of support from Invest NI. The new software engineering team will be recruited over a three year period to help meet growing demand for NuoDB's database management system.

BT
Telecoms firm BT is to recruit over 100 new engineers across Scotland. The jobs are with the firm's local network business Openreach. BT is also investing £126 million in the digital Scotland superfast broadband fibre rollout.

Bennett Verby
Bennett Verby, the Stockport-headquartered accountant and business adviser, has opened offices in Manchester and London, and is recruiting 13 members of staff to meet growing client demand for its services. The firm is also taking on three graduates.

Biogelx
Biotech company Biogelx, a spin-out from Strathclyde University, intends to double headcount at its Scottish headquarters, and double turnover over the five years to 2020.

Riverview Law
Riverview Law is recruiting lawyers and other professionals to work at its centre in Wirral, where is already employs 100 people. 

Bristol Airport
Bristol Airport is investing £24m to further extend the terminal building and transform the way passengers pass through the security process. The extension will feature state-of-the-art security technology, and new customs facilities and shops. The investment will create employment opportunities.

Johnson Design Partnership
Johnson Design Partnership, the Shropshire-based architecture firm, has secured £1.8m worth of new business, which allowing the company to create up to 100 jobs.

Who is hiring in June?

The intention among UK employers to hire permanent staff is at a record high. Eight out of ten employers are planning to hire more people in the next three months, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC)’s JobsOutlook survey of employers.
In addition to the positive hiring intentions, employers also voiced their concerns over skills shortages in the jobs market with one in five (20%) predicting a problem finding people to fill  technical and engineering roles in the next three months, and one in four (25%) predicting significant shortages in the next 12 months. Also the following companies are hiring new staff this month.
Home Retail Group is the UK’s leading home and general merchandise retailer with sales of almost £6billion in the past financial year. It sells products under two distinctive and complementary brands, Argos and Homebase, which combine to serve some 200 million customers every year. Home Retail Group employs approximately 53,000 people.

Capita is one of the largest providers of integrated professional support services in the UK. With over 52,500 employees and a turnover of £3.4bn, Capita continues to grow year on year. Their capabilities include customer and administration services, IT services and financial services.

PDMS

Birmingham Airport

Vodafone
Telecoms company Vodafone, is to recruit 113 new staff at their call centre in Ireland to meet demand for services. The new roles will be created in technology and networks, customer service, HR, finance, sales and marketing. 57 of these new positions will be permanent.

Liberty Marketing
Liberty Marketing, the Cardiff-based digital marketing agency, will relocate to a larger office in Cardiff. The company has created 23 new jobs with more expected to accommodate the growth.

Reckitt Benkiser
Reckitt Benckiser Group, the manufacturer of health, hygiene and home products, is actively recruiting to fill 60 jobs in Marketing, Research, IT, Sales and Customer Services.

Santander UK
Santander Corporate & Commercial has opened a new corporate business centre in Truro, creating 10 jobs. The bank is planning to open another centre in Plymouth later in 2014, with further jobs expected.

Edge Testing Solutions
North Lanarkshire-based software and web testing business, Edge Testing Solutions is looking to expand in England and Scotland. The group has opened a London office and is to create a further 12 jobs across its English and Scottish operations in 2014.

Studio West, a new Tyneside school, expects to create 16 new jobs when it opens in September 2014. The school is recruiting learning coaches, personal coaches and administration staff. The coaches will work with local businesses to set assignments for students.

RMSpumptools
RMSpumptools, which provides artificial lift and subsea connector technology, plans to create 10 new jobs. The company has its Head Office and Mechanical Design Centre in Aberdeenshire, and an Electrical Design Centre, and Manufacturing facilities in North Yorkshire.

Jones FM
Jones FM, a building services and facilities management company, has doubled in size and will relocate to a new headquarters in Kent. The company has increased its workforce from 18 to 34 staff. It expects to create a further 16 jobs.

Synectics Solutions
Synectics Solutions, a provider of fraud prevention and risk management solutions, has invested in personnel, increasing its team to 247.

Speechstorm
Software firm SpeechStorm is creating nine jobs at its headquarters in Belfast after securing international contracts. SpeechStorm plans to significantly grow its revenues in the three years to 2017 and expand in the UK, Ireland, US and Europe.

Newcastle marketing company Meridian Delta plans to create 25 jobs, increasing its workforce to 70, after signing contracts with Manchester United, Nestle, Ford and Asda.

Travelodge Hotels
Hotel chain Travelodge is to create 1,000 new jobs in 2014 with the opening of 15 new hotels across the United Kingdom. There is a likelihood of a variety of roles available.

Ideoba has opened a research and development centre in Pencoed, Wales, creating 100 jobs. The company is using data-mining and profiling technologies to develop an expert search engine for the financial investment sector.

Oricom
Oricom, a telecommunications company, are set to expand their business in Irvine with the creation of around 15 jobs. The Irvine site will be the new head office and nerve centre where sales, service and finance come together.

Ikea
IKEA is expanding its customer contact centre in Fletton and is expecting to create 200 new jobs, with the possibility of supervisory and management positions.

Capita is to create more than 500 jobs in its Dearne Valley and Leeds call centres, meaning more supervisory and central business positions are likely to be available. The vacancies have been created in Capita's customer services business.

Webhelp
Customer experience company Webhelp is to recruit over 600 new people throughout its UK network over the next two months. Webhelp is looking to recruit 177 new permanent positions in Derby, over 150 in Dearne Valley and 75 in Falkirk. Jobs will also be created in the Glasgow, Kilmarnock and Greenock sites. The increase in staff suggests the potential for more managerial positions.

Minster Law Group
Yorkshire-based Minster Law is expanding into London with the launch of a 30-strong city-based team, as part of its strategy to become a market leader in multi-track and catastrophic personal injury.

Asons Solicitors
Bolton firm Asons Solicitors is to develop a 7m office building and revealed plans to create 300 jobs. It will serve as the hub of the firm's operations, while Satellite offices are planned for Singapore, London, Dubai, New York and Pakistan.

BT Group
BT is creating 165 new jobs at its contact centre operation in Belfast. The new roles will bring the total number of new jobs BT has brought to Belfast since August 2012 to 270.

Watson, Farley & Williams
Watson Farley & Williams, the London-based law firm, has seen a 12% increase in turnover for the first six months of 2013, now at £52m. The company has also created 15 new jobs.

Collingwood Insurance Services
North Shields based car insurer Collingwood Insurance Services is to bring 100 new contact centre jobs to the borough after securing new offices in the area.

Sitel
Sitel, providers of outsourced customer care solutions, has created a further 75 jobs in Watford. This expansion follows the earlier creation of 150 new jobs at its Stratford upon Avon site.

Imagematch Social Enterprise
Imagematch are to take on 100 apprentices to reduce youth unemployment in Shropshire. The company has recently moved to large new offices and is to employ the apprentices full time before placing them with companies.

Law firm DAC Beachcroft is acquiring a 54-strong Bristol-based team from Morgan Cole, as part of its expansion strategy. The volume claims and catastrophic insurance team comprises 5 partners and 54 staff members. DAC Beachcroft has a turnover of 163.5m, and 1,840 employees.

Capita
Capita, the customer management services firm, is creating 200 new jobs at a call centre in Leeds. It is also hoping to fill another 300 vacancies at its two call centres in the Dearne Valley. The expansion follows new contract wins and the extension of existing contracts.

Sf Recruitment
Recruitment company SF Group has opened a Leicester office with 11 consultants and aims to increase staff numbers to 20 over one year.

Tolerant Systems
Tolerant Systems, an IT security and compliance company, expects to turnover 600,000 in its first year. The firm employs 20 people and expects to create further jobs as it continues to expand in the UK and internationally.

Harvard Engineering
Harvard Engineering, the Yorkshire-based manufacturer, has sold a minority shareholding to ECI Partners to help pursue its growth plans. The funding will allow the firm to increase staff numbers from 300 to 500 as well as build a new R&D and manufacturing facility.

Active Industrial Services
Active Industrial Services is growing rapidly and is targeting £60m turnover as part of a 5-year business development plan. Employee numbers have grown from 29 to 37, with further employment opportunities expected as expansion continues. The Staffordshire-headquartered group provides supply chain management and industrial engineering services.

Civica Uk
Civica UK has continued to expand with a 10% increase in turnover to 109.6m, while staff numbers have increased from 841 to 1,060. The company, which has a regional office in the West Midlands, has secured a presence on all four lots of the latest iteration of the Government G-Cloud framework.

Grindeys Solicitors
Law firm Grindeys Solicitors Limited, which operates from three offices in Stoke-on-Trent Staffordshire, has more than doubled its staff team from 160 to 331. Turnover has also grown substantially, by 133.6% to £17m. The company has a national client base and operates an active recruitment strategy.

New Call Telecom
New Call Telecom, the London-based telecoms firm, is relocating its Lancashire base to Burnley, and is currently recruiting 30 new staff to deal with its expansion. The firm currently employs 110 people. Turnover £13.5m.

JCT600
JCT600 is looking to recruit 50 new staff in a wide range of roles. JCT600 is a family-run business with 47 dealerships.
